Hi there,

Thanks for visiting Old School Game Blog. 🙂

This weekend a demo party took place in Skövde, Sweden. The party is called GERP and is mainly aimed at the Amiga, but a few other platforms are represented as well.

The Amiga demo competition featured a total of 11 contributions, including one chip-pack (Digital Chips). There was also a music-disk for Amiga AGA in the Wild Demo competition, namely Feedback 9 by Void.

You can find information about the different releases at Demozoo by following this link:

Focus Design won the Amiga demo competition with the demo 1992, Nature came second with Bayeu, while Pac!f!c ranked 3rd with Koobz2.

Streams from the party can be viewed here:

Here are a few videos of some of the Amiga stuff released there:

Amiga: dA JoRMaS: Bonus Stage #75 – Proof of Concept

Hi there,

Today the Amiga demo group Da Jormas released a new production called Bonus Stage #75.

Code, graphics and music by Vesuri.

According to the authors, this is a proof of concept for arcade perfectness on the Amiga, inspired by not so stellar Amiga ports from back in the days.

The demo runs on any Amiga with 1 MB of memory.

Here is the information about the production from their YouTube video showing it running:

This proof of concept for arcade perfectness on the Amiga was inspired by the various not so stellar Amiga ports from back in the day. 50FPS should have been possible on the original hardware but as long as it hasn’t been implemented it doesn’t exist so there was only one way to be sure. In theory the Amiga hardware is a reasonable fit for a racing game of the era with the dual playfield mode giving good control over the race track and the objects on top. The copper can handle the race track while the blitter is busy with the objects and the CPU can orchestrate it all. Color count limitations aside it does indeed work pretty well but unfortunately there is a considerable drawback due to every single thing competing for memory bus access. The other main hurdle is the amount of chip memory needed for the graphics. Adding some real fast memory to the system helps quite a bit. The Amiga 1200, on the other hand, would be perfect for an accurate port with 16 colors per playfield as in the original and enough memory and bandwidth to support it. Perhaps a project for some other crazy MF?

Hi everyone,

If you are familiar with the Amiga demoscene and you watch new releases (and old ones as well), you’ve probably seen a demo, intro, pack or some other kind of production with music by mAZE/Desire^Moods^Void in it. He’s been very active during the last years making many modules on his Amiga 1200 with Protracker.

Now, mAZE has his own YouTube-channel and there you can listen to his tunes if you don’t have an Amiga at hand. 😉

He’s helped me with music for several demo-related projects in the past, so big thanks to him for that. 🙂

Here’s his YouTube-channel:

Hope you’ll pop over and have a listen. 🙂

I’d also like to mention that he runs his own chip-pack, a compilation of chip-tunes with a cool menu and some scrolltext to read. You can download it from here:

PS: Here is a great one with nice Amiga chippy atmosphere:
